Environmental Facilities

Storm water management is a major component in the design and development of subdivisions. Facilities & structures to address this need were traditionally designed and constructed to serve this single purpose. They have now become opportunities to enhance the natural environment, create habitat for wildlife, offer a space for recreation and provide a link to destinations within and outside the community.

At the 200-acre Westminster Woods subdivision in Guelph, we collaborated with the civil engineers at Reid Heritage Homes to transform a storm water management system into a connected environmental facility. The sound of crickets, song birds and frogs, and sight of butterflies and foxes are now common occurrences.

“Over the last 10 years Ken Hoyle has helped us transform Westminster Woods into an attractive, vibrant community. Their advice for our trails, environmental management facilities, parks, streetscapes, and wildlife corridors has helped make the subdivision a special place—home to people, songbirds, frogs and butterflies.”
