Streets for People

Public streets play an integral role in the function of a city and help define its character. Unfortunately however, for too long streets have been designed to primarily accommodate vehicles to the exclusion of people and other uses. The results have been compromised built heritage, loss of trees, and little space for pedestrians, cyclists and the physically challenged. Now, as cities recognize that streets are also places for people, they are now more and more being designed as complete streets where drivers share these valuable public spaces with others. As a result, streets are becoming safer, more accessible, vibrant, attractive, comfortable and beautiful.
